Nashville, TN | May 3-5, 2010

The NGA Center held a meeting of the Federal Facilities Task Force (FFTF) for FFTF members to discuss issues and priorities relevant to cleanup efforts in their states and to have open dialogue with officials from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM). The meeting was held jointly with the National Conference of State Legislatures’ State and Tribal Government Working Group (STGWG) and Environmental Management Roundtable. Each group met individually and for a plenary session with presentations from DOE-EM officials and other speakers. Participants heard presentations on EM’s mission and priorities, the status of ARRA funding and progress, new issues in nuclear security, the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future, EM budgets and strategic planning, and key topics in waste disposition.

The meeting concluded with a site visit to the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, Kentucky. While there, FFTF members learned about plant operations and cleanup efforts at the site, including groundwater decontamination, the preparation of contaminated buildings for demolition, and the processing of depleted uranium for final disposal.
